Environment, forest and climate change minister Abdul Awal Mintu at a workshop in Dhaka on Sunday called upon everyone to work collectively to control air and noise pollution.
The minister made the call while addressing the closing ceremony of a workshop on integrated and participatory project for noise pollution control at the Department of Environment of Agargaon, said a press release.
Mentioning that collective cooperation from government and private institutions, relevant agencies, and the general public is needed to curb noise pollution, he said, ‘People must be made aware on how noise pollution is increasing health risks.’
‘The honk of transport itself is harmful for a driver,’ he added, hoping that continuous and regular campaign was necessary to make people aware about noise pollution.
He also informed that efforts were under way to declare various areas as silent zones on a pilot basis.
Presiding over by DoE director general Lutfor Rahman, at the end of the workshop, the minister unveiled the survey reports on noise level measurement in 64 district towns.
