The Border Guard Bangladesh has prevented an attempt by India’s Border Security Force to push nine people into Bangladesh through Sapahar border in Naogaon.

According to a press release issued by Naogaon-16 BGB on Wednesday, the incident took place at about 4:00am near Adatola Border Outpost under Sapahar upazila.


Members of India’s 29 BSF Battalion from Elenpur camp attempted to push nine individuals- three men, three women and three children into Bangladesh through border pillar 244/MP, it said.

However, a BGB patrol team rushed to the spot after receiving the information and successfully foiled the attempt,it added.

Following the intervention, the nine individuals were left stranded in the no-man’s land between the two countries’ borders.

Additional BGB personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain security, and surveillance has been strengthened with the help of local residents, the press release added.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Ariful Islam Masum, commanding officer of Naogaon-16 BGB, said that patrols in the area had been increased after the incident.

'No one will be allowed to enter Bangladesh illegally, including these nine individuals,' he said, adding that efforts are underway to send them back to India.
