Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner (Acting) Md Sarwar has instructed police officials to remain on maximum alert to maintain law and order and prevent crimes ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
Speaking at the monthly crime review meeting at the DMP headquarters on Thursday, he said special attention must be given to arresting counterfeit currency gangs and muggers.
Sarwar also directed traffic police to ensure that cattle markets do not create traffic congestion during Eid preparations.
He said security measures must be strengthened at launch terminals, bus terminals and railway stations, while foot patrols across the capital should also be intensified.
Police stations were instructed to conduct drives to recover drugs and arrest accused persons with pending warrants. Officers were also asked to remain vigilant so that no crime takes place within their respective jurisdictions.
Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam called for the arrest of extortionists and muggers during the ongoing special drives.
At the meeting, the acting DMP commissioner awarded police officials of different ranks in recognition of their performances in maintaining law and order, controlling crime and ensuring public safety in April.
