The securities regulator significantly expanded its investor education and financial literacy programmes in FY26, with more than 21,700 people receiving training through initiatives led by the regulator and other capital market institutions as part of efforts to strengthen investor confidence and promote informed investment decisions.
The latest data released by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Monday showed that a total of 21,732 participants were trained by the BSEC, stock exchanges, market intermediaries and capital market institutions between July 2025 and June 2026, reflecting a growing emphasis on investor protection and financial literacy following years of volatility in the country’s stock market.
According to the BSEC data, the commission’s Financial Literacy Division alone trained 4,660 participants through a wide range of investor education programmes designed for retail investors, market professionals, journalists, entrepreneurs and women investors.
The commission organised training for 1,896 general investors to improve their understanding of the capital market, investment risks and portfolio management. Another 1,194 employees of brokerage houses, merchant banks and other intermediary institutions received professional training to strengthen market practices and regulatory compliance.
Recognising the media’s role in promoting investor awareness, the regulator also organised a specialised capital market workshop for 52 journalists.
In addition, 81 officials participated in a seminar on market surveillance, capital issues and financial literacy conducted in collaboration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The regulator also trained 106 authorised representatives of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) TREC holders, while 1,290 participants joined programmes organised as part of World Investor Week 2025, a global initiative aimed at enhancing investor awareness.
As part of its efforts to broaden capital market participation, the commission conducted training for 35 SME entrepreneurs on raising capital through public offerings and organised financial investment literacy workshops for women investors to encourage greater female participation in the securities market.
Beyond the commission’s own programmes, the BSEC coordinated with key market institutions to expand investor education across the country.
According to the data, brokers trained the highest number of participants at 3,876, followed by the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) with 3,350, the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) with 2,589, and merchant banks with 2,352 participants.
The DSE and the Bangladesh Academy for Securities Markets (BASM) each trained 1,339 participants, while the securities regulator’s Administration and Finance Division trained 1,442 and the commission’s Market and Intermediaries Affairs Division trained 308.
The Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) trained 181 participants, the Central Depository Bangladesh Ltd (CDBL) trained 111, while 185 participants received training through programmes organised by listed companies.
The expansion of investor education comes as the securities regulator is implementing a series of reforms aimed at improving market governance, strengthening oversight of intermediaries, enhancing disclosure standards and restoring confidence among investors.
