Meta has rolled out paid subscription tiers for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp to users worldwide, as the company moves to diversify its revenue beyond advertising and consolidate its growing portfolio of subscription products under a single brand called Meta One.
The consumer-facing plans — Instagram Plus at $3.99 per month, Facebook Plus at $3.99 per month, and WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 per month — give subscribers access to additional features including profile customisation options, super reactions, and story insights. Meta's head of product Naomi Gleit said more features will be added to the plans over time.
What each plan offers
Instagram Plus is oriented around audience growth and content management. Subscribers can see how many people have rewatched a Story in aggregate, create unlimited audience lists beyond the standard Close Friends option, spotlight a Story once a week for additional views, extend a Story beyond 24 hours, and preview a Story without appearing as a viewer. Users can also post directly to their profile and highlights without surfacing on their followers' feeds. Additional features include Super Heart animated reactions, custom app icons, and customisable fonts for profile bios.
Facebook Plus offers a similar set of features to Instagram Plus, while WhatsApp Plus is focused more on personalisation and messaging, offering app themes, custom ringtones, additional pinned chats, list customisation, and premium stickers.
The new Plus plans sit alongside Meta's existing Meta Verified offering, which focuses on account verification, impersonation protection, and enhanced support. Meta confirmed the Plus plans do not replace Meta Verified, which will continue to run alongside the new tiers for the time being.
AI plans and professional tiers in testing
Alongside the global launch of the Plus plans, Meta announced it will begin testing AI-focused subscriptions next month under the Meta One brand, initially in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia. Two tiers are planned: Meta One Plus at $7.99 per month and Meta One Premium at $19.99 per month. Both plans offer the same features, but the Premium tier unlocks additional capacity for high-compute tasks, including deeper reasoning for complex queries and greater video and image generation capabilities across Meta's apps. Meta AI will remain free for casual users. Meta also said the AI plans will expand to include benefits for users of its AI glasses in the weeks following launch.
Two further plans aimed at creators and businesses will begin testing later this week in markets including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh. The Meta One Essential plan, priced at $14.99 per month, will offer a verified badge, impersonation protection, and an enhanced link sheet for directing audiences to a creator's wider online presence. The Meta One Advanced plan, at $49.99 per month, adds features designed to increase visibility, including placement in Facebook feeds, higher rankings in Facebook and Instagram search results, a prominent Follow button on Reels, and automatic follow invitations to users who engage with content. Advanced subscribers will also gain the ability to add links directly within Instagram posts and Reels, access deeper competitive analytics on Instagram, and use optimised scheduling and account management tools.
The broader strategy
Meta confirmed it is still in an experimental phase with the AI and professional plans, but aims to bring all subscription offerings together under the Meta One brand, where they will continue to be developed and expanded over time.
The launch follows Meta's first-quarter 2026 earnings report, in which the company's family of apps revenue grew 54% year-on-year to $801 million, driven substantially by WhatsApp's business messaging operations. With its core social platforms having reached near-total global saturation, Meta's subscription push reflects a deliberate effort to extract additional revenue from an existing user base rather than from audience growth alone.
