Veteran Bangladeshi singer Tapan Chowdhury has composed a new original song for Dr Priyanka Gope, marking their first musical collaboration.

The track, titled “Kotodin Hoyni Dekha”, is written by Tapan Chowdhury and noted lyricist Kabir Bakul. Chowdhury has composed the melody, while Ujjal Sinha is in charge of the musical arrangement. The recording is scheduled to take place in the coming days.

Chowdhury, a defining voice of Bangladesh’s modern songs in the 1990s, rose to prominence during the BTV, Bangladesh Betar and cassette era. His solo album “Onushochona” remains one of the most celebrated releases of that period. He also earned wide acclaim for his duet album “Nishwase Tumi Bishwase Tumi” with Indian singer Mitali Mukherjee.

Dr Priyanka Gope described the opportunity as deeply personal. “I grew up listening to his songs. ‘Onushochona’ is an album I’ve returned to countless times. His duet album with Mitali Mukherjee, ‘Nishwase Tumi Bishwase Tumi’, is also among my favourites. Singing a song composed by him is truly an honour,” she said, adding that she hopes to live up to his expectations.

Recently, Gope performed “Megher Vela” on BTV’s cultural programme “Fagun Molat”. The song was written by Adhara Jahan and composed by Suman Kalyan. Earlier releases in her voice include “Ekhono Koeliya” and “Aji Nemeche Andhar”, arranged by Pallab Sanyal and Sonali Roy.

Gope said her recent releases were shaped with listeners in mind. “I sang these songs keeping audience preferences at the forefront. The response has been encouraging. I want to continue offering music that resonates,” she said.

Dr Priyanka Gope has served as chair of the Department of Music at the University of Dhaka since July 1, 2014. In 2015, she won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the film “Anil Bagchir Ekdin”.
