More than a thousand female students of Jahangirnagar University gathered in front of the university’s proctor office Wednesday night, demanding the resignation of Proctor Prof AKM Rashidul Alam following the attempted rape of a student on campus allegedly by an outsider.

The protesting students brought out a torch procession around 10:10pm from the university’s women’s dormitory area and marched through several campus roads.

The protesting students said that the proctor failed to ensure the safety and security of female students in the university.

An attempted rape case was filed earlier with Ashulia Police Station against an unidentified individual after a female student of the university alleged that an outsider attacked her on campus late last night.

The incident took place after 11:00pm near the abandoned old Fazilatunnesa Hall and the extended section of Al-Beruni Hall, according to university authorities.
