Ukrainian forces struck targets in Russia’s Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk and in the Krasnodar region, including a naval base and a terminal for loading oil, President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday.

Zelensky also said military port facilities and warships carrying missiles had been struck.

Four people including a child were killed in the Ukrainian drone attack on Novorossiysk, the governor of Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratyev, said yesterday.

He said another 29 people were wounded in the assault on Novorossiysk, a frequent target of Ukrainian drone strikes and a major outlet for Russian oil, oil products and grain exports, among other commodities.

Novorossiysk mayor Andrei Kravchenko said earlier yesterday that drone debris fell on the premises of a number of businesses and close to an inhabited building. There were fires after the attack, regional authorities added.

Meanwhile, the Russian defence ministry said yesterday that its forces had struck a Ukrainian cargo vessel carrying military equipment in the Black Sea en route to the port of Odesa, as well as a warehouse in Kyiv, belonging to a company manufacturing drones, Russian news agencies reported.

In a separate strike, Russian drones hit a border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova in Odesa, killing two people, and attacked the country’s capital Kyiv overnight, reports Reuters.

Two civilians near the Starokozache crossing were killed and three others injured in the attack, Governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram.

Russian forces shot down 596 Ukrainian drones during Tuesday night, the defence ministry said yesterday, a day after President Vladimir Putin held talks with his US counterpart on ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Putin spoke with US leader Donald Trump by telephone on Tuesday, with Washington pushing for face-to-face talks between Russia and Ukraine.

Kyiv has said the talks could happen this month, but the Kremlin has said it is “too early” to discuss a venue or dates.
