The massive outreach effort is part of a broader strategy to curb speculative trading and strengthen market discipline following years of volatility in the stock market.
According to data released by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Monday, a total of 21,732 participants received training between July 2025 and June 2026 through a collaborative effort involving the BSEC, stock exchanges, market intermediaries and other capital market institutions.
BSEC Executive Director and spokesperson Abul Kalam said the training programmes are designed to enhance investor awareness, promote prudent investment practices and foster a stable, transparent and sustainable capital market.
"Sustained investor education is essential to reducing speculative trading and helping investors make informed decisions based on fundamentals rather than rumours, ultimately contributing to a healthier and more resilient capital market," he told The Financial Express.
He added that the commission will continue partnering with market institutions to expand financial literacy nationwide and encourage responsible public participation.Economics
Data show that the BSEC's Financial Literacy Division trained 4,660 participants across diverse demographic and professional groups. They included 1,896 general investors, who received guidance on capital market mechanics, investment risks, and portfolio management, as well as 1,194 employees of brokerage houses, merchant banks, and other intermediary institutions to strengthen regulatory compliance.
Recognising the media's influence on market sentiment, the regulator conducted a specialised capital market workshop for 52 journalists from leading print and electronic media outlets.
Additionally, 81 officials participated in a seminar on 'market surveillance, capital issues, and financial literacy' organised by the BSEC in collaboration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The regulator also focused on broadening market participation. Programmes included training for 106 authorised representatives of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) TREC holders, 35 SME entrepreneurs on raising capital via public offerings, and targeted financial literacy workshops for women investors.
Furthermore, 1,290 individuals were trained during World Investor Week 2025, a global awareness initiative.Newspapers
Beyond its direct programmes, the BSEC coordinated extensively with key market stakeholders to amplify its reach. Brokerage houses trained the highest number of participants at 3,876, followed by the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) with 3,350 trainees, the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) with 2,589, and merchant banks with 2,352.
The DSE and the Bangladesh Academy for Securities Markets (BASM) each trained 1,339 participants. The BSEC's Administration and Finance Division trained 1,442 individuals, while its Market and Intermediaries Affairs Division trained 308.
Rounding out the efforts, the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) trained 181 participants, Central Depository Bangladesh Ltd (CDBL) trained 111, and various listed companies organised programmes for 185 individuals.
The expanded investor education drive comes as the BSEC rolls out a series of reforms aimed at improving market governance, strengthening oversight of intermediaries, enhancing disclosure standards and restoring investor confidence in the country's capital market.Geographic Reference
