As fans around the world tuned in for the Argentina vs Austria clash, Lionel Messi was not the only star stealing the spotlight.

Shakira turned heads after being spotted in the stands with her sons. The Grammy-winning singer was seated in a premium section at Arlington’s Dallas Stadium as Lionel Messi and Argentina faced Austria.

During the second half, cameras zoomed in on Shakira, sparking loud cheers from fans who quickly recognised the global superstar.

Shakira responded with a wave and a blown kiss, delighting the crowd. She later appeared on the big screen again during a hydration break, drawing another enthusiastic reaction from spectators.

The moment further reinforced Shakira’s long-standing connection with the FIFA World Cup, where she has established herself as one of the tournament’s most iconic musical figures.

She first performed at the 2006 World Cup closing ceremony in Germany with a remixed rendition of "Hips Don’t Lie".

Her most defining contribution came in 2010 with "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)", the official anthem of the tournament, which went on to become one of the most celebrated World Cup songs worldwide.

She also added to her World Cup legacy with "La La La" for the 2014 Brazil edition and more recently released "Dai Dai" for the current tournament, which she also performed at the opening ceremony.

The match itself carried historic significance, as Shakira watched Lionel Messi score his 17th World Cup goal, officially making him the tournament’s all-time leading scorer.
