A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in Dhaka’s Shah Ali area early today.
The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan. Police detained one person in connection with the killing.
The stabbing took place in front of Hazrat Shah Ali Mohila College around 12:30am, said police.
Mehedi was critically injured and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He died while undergoing treatment around 6:15am, said police.
Shah Ali Police Station Sub-Inspector Atowar Rahman said police detained a man carrying a knife from the road in front of Shah Ali Mohila College around midnight. Shortly afterwards, police learned that the man had allegedly stabbed a youth nearby.
Mehedi hailed from Sahebganj village in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur. His father is Md Alam. He had been living in the Borobagh area under Mirpur Police Station and worked in signboard making.
Police are yet to determine whether the incident stemmed from a mugging or previous enmity, said the SI.
The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy. Investigation is underway, he added.
