Police recovered several crude bomb-like objects, a significant amount of bomb-making materials and equipment from a three-storey building in Savar's Shyampur on Tuesday night.

Earlier, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police cordoned off the building, owned by one Abdul Jalil, at around 6:30pm. Later, members of the Bomb Disposal Unit went in and recovered the items.

Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Alam, while addressing the media after the raid, said based on a tip-off and information provided by a person who was earlier arrested from the Hemayetpur area, the CTTC and DMP’s bomb disposal unit launched the operation at the house in Shyampur.

The OC said the arrestee was initially suspected to be linked to Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

During the operation, several JMB leaflets, several crude bomb-like objects, and a significant quantity of bomb-making materials and equipment were recovered from the house, he said.

The operation was still underway, the OC said, adding that further operations were being conducted at different locations based on information provided by the arrestee.

Both police and CTTC officials initially declined to disclose the reason for the operation and barred journalists and local residents from approaching the building.

Besides CTTC members, police from the local police station and officials of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) were present at the scene.

A shopkeeper near the building told The Daily Star that CTTC members had been surrounding the building for around three and a half hours.
