Film shootings at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) have almost come to a standstill. While construction work is going on in some areas, many members of different associations spend their time there without work. In this difficult situation, artistes themselves have come forward to support fellow artistes.
Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association executive member and actress Rumana Islam Mukti stood beside low-income artistes by distributing winter blankets at her own initiative. The blanket distribution programme was held on Tuesday afternoon (January 13) at the Artistes’ Association premises, where more than 200 artistes received winter clothing.
Association president Misha Sawdagar, joint general secretary Arman, Komol Patekar, executive members Chunnu and Poly, actor Sony Rahman, and several others were present at the event along with Mukti.

Speaking about the initiative, Mukti said that everyone is aware of the current condition of the film industry. As work has reduced significantly, many colleagues, especially low-income artistes, are facing financial hardship. Winter has made their struggles even harder, so she tried to do something personally for them. She added that just like gifts are given during the two Eids, this was her way of giving a winter gift to fellow artistes.
Rumana Islam Mukti is the daughter of renowned Dhallywood actor Anwar. She made her big-screen debut in Goutam Ghose’s film “Padma Nadir Majhi”, playing the character Gopi, the daughter of Champa. She later debuted as a lead actress in “Chander Alo”. Her performance as a landlord’s granddaughter in Humayun Ahmed’s “Srabon Megher Din” received wide appreciation from audiences.
