Professor Muhammad Yunus returned to his institution on Sunday after serving as the head of the immediate-past interim government for 18 months.
He was warmly received by his longtime colleagues upon arrival at the Yunus Centre at Telecom Bhaban in the capital’s Mirpur in the morning.
Later, he attended a meeting with managing directors and advisers of the Grameen organisations he founded.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner is still staying at the state guest house Jamuna after handing over power to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led new government.
The BNP, led by party chairman Tarique Rahman, formed the government on February 17 after securing 209 seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election held on February 12.
According to the Yunus Centre, the 2006 Nobel laureate also plans to return from Jamuna to his residence in the capital’s Gulshan by the end of this month.
Yunus began residing at Jamuna on August 8, 2024, after being sworn in as chief adviser to the interim government following the fall of the Awami League regime on August 5, 2024, amid a student-led mass uprising.
The institutions founded by Yunus include Grameen Telecom, Grameen Kalyan, Grameen Fund, Grameen Fisheries Foundation, Grameen Uddog (Grameen Enterprise), Grameen Samogree and Grameen Shakti.
Born on June 28, 1940, Muhammad Yunus is also the founder and former managing director of Grameen Bank, one of the microcredit pioneers in the world.
