A Dinajpur court today sent an upazila livestock officer to jail in a case filed over the rape of a woman in Hakimpur upazila.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Mustansir Rahman passed the order after the accused, Shafiul Islam, was produced before the court in the evening, said Hakimpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jakir Hossain.

The OC said Shafiul had asked the woman, a resident of Hakimpur municipality, to visit his office yesterday for a conversation. He said the two were previously acquainted.

When she went to his office around 9:30am yesterday, he locked her in the room and raped her, he added.

The woman filed a case with Hakimpur Police Station yesterday afternoon, following which police arrested the accused.
