A Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) personnel was killed in a head-on collision between his motorcycle and an auto-rickshaw while travelling to inspect government work in Chattogram’s Mirsharai upazila today.

The deceased, Md Alauddin, 38, of Ramgati upazila in Lakshmipur, had been serving as the upazila Ansar and VDP officer in Mirsharai since earlier this year.

The accident occurred around 12:00pm at the intersection of Abutorab Road as he was heading to Mirsharai National Special Economic Zone, police said.

"He was riding a motorcycle when it collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw," said Mirsharai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Farida Yasmin.

He was rushed to Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Shuvra Dash, a duty doctor of Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex, said Alauddin had died before reaching the hospital.

The police have seized the auto-rickshaw and detained its driver. Further legal action will be taken after Alauddin's family arrives, the OC added.
