Cumilla-4 lawmaker and National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah was surrounded and confronted by a group of youths yesterday while visiting the residence of former Chattogram City Corporation mayor Mohammad Manjur Alam.
The youths reportedly questioned him over the purpose of his visit to the former CCC mayor’s residence in the Akbarshah area of Chattogram city, police said.
“Hasnat Abdullah had gone to attend an invitation at the residence of Manjurul Alam, former mayor of Chattogram City Corporation and owner of the Mostafa Hakim Group,” Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (West Zone) Alamgir Hossain told The Daily Star.
“He did not inform the local police in advance about his arrival. Upon learning of Hasnat’s arrival, activists of Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and local youths gathered at the scene and confronted him, demanding to know the reason for his visit,” he added.
Police later rushed to the spot after receiving information and brought the situation under control.
Hasnat Abdullah was escorted to his vehicle by police following the incident, the police official said.
A video of the incident is circulating on social media, showing Hasnat being questioned by local youths claiming to be “July fighters.”
Speaking to the media, Manjur Alam said Hasnat Abdullah had visited his residence on a courtesy call.
