Miscreants hacked two BNP men in Indurkani upazila of Pirojpur last night, leaving them critically injured.
The victims are Mohiuddin Mollik Nasir, 70, former president of the Pirojpur Sadar upazila unit BNP, and Riazuddin Mollik Nipu, 45, general secretary of the Shankarpasha union unit in the upazila.
The attack took place around 11:00pm on the Pirojpur-Charkhali road, approximately 200 metres from Nasir’s residence.
The two were returning home on a motorcycle from Parerhat Bazar when a group of miscreants attacked them.
According to victim Nipu, “Eight to 10 assailants, on motorcycles, blocked our path and attacked us with sharp weapons, hacking at us indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. We could not identify anyone as they left immediately after the attack.”
Rajib Paik, medical officer at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, said Nasir sustained around ten sharp-weapon injuries on both hands and the left side of his neck, with several tendons affected.
Nipu suffered head injuries and multiple stab wounds on different parts of his body.
“As their condition deteriorated, both of them were referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment,” he added.
Following the incident, Nasrin Jahan, additional superintendent of police in Pirojpur (Sadar Circle), visited the hospital.
“After investigation, we will be able to determine who was behind the attack,” she said.
