Social welfare and women and children affairs minister AZM Zahid Hossain exchanged post-Eid greetings with the underprivileged children at his residence on Bayley Road in Dhaka on Sunday.

Children from Mirpur Shishu Paribar, boys; Tejgaon Shishu Paribar, girls; Azimpur Chhotomani Nibas and the Shishu Bikash Kendra attended the event and shared the festive spirit of Eid with the minister, said a press release.

AZM Zahid hosted the event and listened to the children’s Eid experiences. A special meal, including seasonal fruits and other refreshments, was arranged for the children.

The children said that they were delighted to have the opportunity to visit the minister’s official residence and receive his warm hospitality.

The minister said that the initiative was aimed at spreading the joy of Eid among all the segments of the society, particularly those who are less privileged.

‘Bringing smiles to the faces of underprivileged children is a collective responsibility of all of us. Children are the future of the nation and the government remains committed to ensuring their well-being and development,’ he said.

He also noted that similar initiatives would continue in the future to help the marginalised and orphaned children become more integrated into mainstream society.

The minister’s wife Sharifa Karim Swarna, social welfare secretary Mohammad Abu Yousuf and women and children affairs secretary Yasmin Parveen, among others, were present at the event.
