Two local leaders of the Jubo Dal have been suspended after being accused of forcibly taking fuel from a filling station in Jashore and selling it at inflated prices.

The action was taken against Shamim Kabir Wasim, organisational secretary of Churamankati Union Jubo Dal, and Zakir Hossain Ziko Dafadar, a member of Ward No 1 of the same unit.

In a statement issued last evening, Abul Kalam Azad, joint convener of Jashore Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal, said the action was taken following “clear allegations” of activities that violate the organisation’s ideology, principles and constitution.

The two have been relieved of all organisational responsibilities, including their primary membership. Party activists were also instructed to avoid maintaining any organisational links with them.

According to the complaint, the two men went to a filling station in the Shantola area of Jashore on Saturday (March 28) night, where they allegedly used their influence to take fuel in drums and bottles. The fuel was later sold at higher prices.

The incident came to light after local reports prompted a visit to the site by Delwar Hossain Khokon, general secretary of the district BNP. After reviewing CCTV footage and finding evidence of the incident, he ordered organisational action against those involved.

The suspensions were announced later the same day.
