Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today announced a 180‑day education programme, including free education up to university level for the offspring of July Uprising martyrs and injured student fighters, as well as those disabled in the movement.
The announcement came on the first working day after the Eid‑ul‑Fitr holidays, during a greeting exchange with ministry officials, according to a press release.
At a subsequent meeting, the minister discussed the programme in line with the BNP’s manifesto for the 13th parliamentary election, the 2026‑27 fiscal year plan, and a five‑year development strategy.
Milon said the government would roll out programmes such as One Teacher, One Tab, multimedia classrooms, compulsory third-language education, technical education for all, and One Child, One Tree.
He also announced student loan facilities for higher studies abroad, and honour and recognition for Huffaz-e-Quran.
To strengthen primary education, Milon directed officials to clear the backlog in teacher training, even arranging multiple shifts if necessary, and to include nationalised teachers aged over 50.
The meeting resolved that within 180 days, free uniforms and shoes would be distributed to more than two lakh students across upazilas, with plans to extend the scheme nationwide. Tabs will also be provided to teachers at primary, technical, madrasa, school, and college levels within a year.
Additionally, math olympiads will be introduced at the upazila level, while debate competitions will be made mandatory in every institution, alongside the formation of debate clubs.
Senior officials from the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Technical and Madrasa Education Division, and Primary and Mass Education Division attended the meeting.
