Air Vice Marshal M Mustafizur Rahman has assumed charge as vice-chancellor of the Aviation and Aerospace University Bangladesh on January 21, 2026, with a call for honesty, dedication and sincerity in building the institution as a centre of excellence in aviation and space research.

In a brief address after taking charge at the university’s Dhaka campus, he sought cooperation from all stakeholders and urged them to work collectively to strengthen academic standards and research capacity in specialised aviation and aerospace disciplines, says a press release.

Air Vice Marshal Mustafizur Rahman is a career aviator with more than three decades of experience in aviation planning, operations and flight safety. He has held a range of senior appointments, including directing staff roles at the Defence Services Command and Staff College in Mirpur and the Armed Forces War Course at the National Defence College.

During his service career, he also served as air secretary, director of planning and director of flight safety in the Bangladesh Air Force, and later as director general (training) in the Armed Forces Division. For his professional contributions, he received the Bishisto Sheba Padak and the Gouraboujjal Uddoyon Padak.

Academically, he holds degrees in aeronautics, defence studies and strategic studies from institutions in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, along with an MPhil from Bangladesh University of Professionals. Prior to joining the university, he was serving as a senior directing staff member at the National Defence College.

University officials said his appointment is expected to strengthen leadership in specialised higher education and research aligned with Bangladesh’s growing aviation and aerospace ambitions.
