A robbery suspect was killed in mob beating in a village at Shibganj upazila in Bogura district on Friday morning.

The deceased, Selim Fakir, 42, son of Siddiq Fakir, was a resident of Kalai union under Kahalu upazila in the district.


The police said that they were informed about the early morning incident at about 8:00am. 

Shibganj circle assistant superintendent of police Robiul Islam said that the incident happened when three people allegedly invaded the house of Sree Gopal Chandra and looted valuables pointing sharp weapons at the house occupants.

‘They allegedly looted valuables, including cash and jewelries, from the house pointing sharp weapons on a woman and a six year old child,’ said police officer Robiul Islam.

Sensing their presense villagers attacked the three as they were about flee the scene, he said, adding that two managed to flee, while the villagers caught Selim Fakir whom they beat to death. 

Selim Fakir was accused in nine cases relating to, among other offences, mugging, robbery and theft that were filed with police stations in Bogura, Naogaon and Joypurhat.

Shibganj police officer-in-charge Shahinuzzaman said that they had sent the body to hospital for autopsy.

‘The process for filing a case is under way. We are investigating the incident,’ he said, adding that no one was arrested so far.
