The government on Sunday formed a committee to scrutinise and submit recommendations on the reports of National Pay Commission, Judicial Service Pay Commission, and Armed Forces Pay Committee.

Headed by Cabinet Division Secretary, the committee also consists of secretaries of Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Defence, Finance, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Chief Adviser's Office, Health Services Division, and Law and Justice Division, and Controller General of Accounts.

A gazette notification to this effect was issued on the day.

Without mentioning any specific time frame, the gazette notification said the committee will submit its report to the government in due time.

The National Pay Commission headed by former secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan on January 21 submitted its report, recommending lowest basic pay at Tk 20,000 and the highest at Tk 160,000 suggesting up to 142 per cent wage hike for the public servants.

However, the interim government has decided not to implement the new pay scale now rather to leave it for the next elected government.

A group of government employees on Friday staged demonstrations near the State Guest House Jamuna, the official residence of Chief Adviser of the interim government, demanding immediate implementation of the new pay-scale.

They clashed with the police and had announced not to return home until the implementation of the new pay.

However, requested by the government high-ups, they suspended their protests.
