A Jubo Dal leader was hacked to death in broad daylight in Bagharpara upazila of Jashore today.

The incident took place at around 11:30am in front of Khajura Filling Station in the upazila.

The deceased, identified as Rubel Hossain, 38, of Dhanyapora village in Bagharpara upazila, was the joint general secretary of Bandabila union unit Jubo Dal in the upazila, said Jashore district Jubo Dal President M Tamal Hossain.

Tamal demanded a proper investigation into the killing and exemplary punishment for those responsible.

Police and local sources said Rubel was attacked in the morning. The alleged attacker, identified as Rabbi, of the same area, repeatedly hacked him with a sharp weapon, inflicting critical injuries before fleeing the scene.

Locals rescued Rubel and rushed him to the emergency department of Jashore General Hospital, where the on-duty physician declared him dead. His body was later sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Bagharpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shah Jalal Alam said police visited the site after receiving information.

“An investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killing. Multiple police teams are conducting drives to arrest the prime suspect, Rabbi,” the OC added.
