Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified surveillance along the Jashore border to prevent push-ins and the smuggling of sacrificial animal rawhides during Eid-ul-Azha.

The information was confirmed last night by Lt Col Golam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan, commanding officer of the Jashore 49 BGB Battalion, and Lt Col Nafiz Imtiaz Ahsan, commanding officer of the Khulna 21 BGB Battalion.

The two commanders said BGB personnel have been placed on maximum alert along the border to curb push-ins and the illegal trafficking of rawhides during the Eid season.

They also said public awareness campaigns are being conducted through loudspeaker announcements in border areas, urging local residents to remain vigilant.

“We are holding a series of border conferences with the BSF regarding all forms of cross-border crimes,” the commanders said. “We remain alert to prevent push-ins and raw hide smuggling activities.”

Additional BGB personnel have been deployed and border patrols strengthened in vulnerable areas, they added.

Law enforcement agencies have reportedly taken extensive precautionary measures along various border routes in Jashore during Eid-ul-Azha.

Particular attention has been given to several points along the 102-kilometre border in Sharsha upazila, including Kashipur, Shalkona, Shikarpur, Dhanyakhola, Raghunathpur, Putkhali, Daulatpur, Sadipur, Ghiba, Goga, Rudrapur, Agrobhulot, Panchbhulot, and Dadkhali, which authorities identified as potential routes for rawhide smuggling.

Alongside border guards, police have also been placed on alert in these identified areas due to concerns over push-ins and illegal hide trafficking, the commanders added.
