Female students’ platform Oborodhbashini has given Dhaka University authorities a 48‑hour ultimatum to meet its demands, including scrapping the restriction barring female students from entering their residential halls after 10:00pm till 6:00am.

The platform announced the ultimatum Sunday after submitting a memorandum to Vice‑Chancellor Prof Dr ABM Obaidul Islam. It warned of tougher measures if the authorities failed to act within the deadline.

In the memorandum, Oborodhbashini placed three key demands: ending the 10:00pm‑to‑6:00am restriction, ensuring 24‑hour access to halls, and allowing female relatives of students to enter women’s halls. It also sought permission for non‑resident students and students of other halls to enter any hall with valid identity cards, and for female students from other halls to stay overnight with permission.

The platform noted that 57 percent of female students at DU are deprived of residential facilities. It questioned the rule that bars non‑resident students from entering halls to rest, eat or stay overnight despite paying regular hall fees. It also criticised restrictions on the entry of mothers, sisters, and other female relatives.

Oborodhbashini said the 10pm‑to‑6am restriction, imposed in the name of security, instead creates scope for harassment of female students over their night‑time movements.

The campaign began on July 31 with graffiti painted at the gates of female residential halls. Students later held a press briefing and organised programmes to press their demands. The platform has also called for a gathering on campus on Monday afternoon as part of its ongoing campaign.
