Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Mahbub Morshed, left the news agency’s office this afternoon after journalists and employees formally expressed no confidence in him.

Leaders of the BSS Journalists-Employees Unity Council said they had planned to take action before the national election but waited, fearing it might affect election coverage.

After the election, they held a meeting and decided that no one would work under Mahbub Morshed. All present expressed no confidence in him, and the decision was conveyed to him. They also said they would inform the government of their decision.

Soon after being informed, Mahbub Morshed left the office, and he was not allowed to use the office car, the leaders said.

The Daily Star tried to reach Mahbub Morshed several times over the phone, but he did not respond. He also did not reply to text messages.

Earlier today in a Facebook post, Mahbub Morshed wrote, “Dear BNP, you are coming to power, and I am happy. I am serving as BSS managing director and chief editor under an appointment made by the interim government. You may not want to keep me in this post. There are recognised procedures for contract termination and removal. Why are you, instead, trying to remove me by creating a mob in the office, carrying out an attack, and locking it?”

Dhaka Reporters Unity leaders publicly demanded Mahbub Morshed’s apology and removal, accusing him of misconduct.
