Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said The Daily Star had made a notable mark over the past 35 years in journalism, media freedom, and social responsibility.
“I hope that despite some shortcomings in the past, such lapses will not recur in the future,” he added.
The minister made the remarks at The Daily Star’s Dhaka office during the newspaper’s 35th anniversary celebration.
“In line with public expectations and the aspirations of the 2024 uprising, I hope The Daily Star and other media outlets will continue to play their part in building a strong democratic state -- serving the people and the country’s welfare.”
Commenting on the attacks on The Daily Star and Prothom Alo on December 18 last year, the minister said, “Those involved will soon be brought to justice. The government is fulfilling its responsibility to uphold the rule of law.”
“As the matter is under investigation, it is not appropriate to say more. But justice will be ensured, and all those involved will face legal action,” he added.
