Islami Andolan Bangladesh has announced its new central committee, appointing Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman as the party's secretary general.

The party also named four joint secretaries general, four assistant secretaries general and a 54-member central committee.

The announcement was made today following a special meeting of the party's Central Majlis-e-Shura at a hotel in Dhaka's Bijoynagar, according to a press release.

Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim will continue as the party's ameer.

The party retained Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, Maulana Abdul Awwal and Maulana Abdul Haque Azad as naib-e-ameer (vice presidents).

The newly appointed joint secretaries general are Engineer Ashraful Alam, Hafeez Maulana Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud, Shah Iftekhar Tariq and Maulana Nesar Uddin.

The assistant secretaries general are Maulana Syed Eshaq Muhammad Abul Khair, Maulana Ahmad Abdul Qayyum, KM Atikur Rahman and Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf.

According to the press release, the special Shura session was convened before the end of the committee's tenure to review the party's organisational activities for 2025-26 and discuss its political strategy ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The meeting also reviewed the post-election political situation and discussed ways to further strengthen the party's organisational structure.

Addressing the meeting, party chief Rezaul Karim said the implementation of Shariah remains the party's primary objective and its political strategies are formulated with that goal in mind.

He also stressed the need to further strengthen the organisation and enhance its capacity to meet future political challenges.

Meanwhile, Principal Hafeez Maulana Yunus Ahmad, who had served as the party's secretary general since 2008, has been made a member of the party's highest policymaking body, the presidium. The party also expressed gratitude for his contributions during the Shura session, the release said.
