Police have rescued a 13-year-old boy from Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila who had been missing for two days.
He was rescued from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area in Dhaka this afternoon.
Mohammad Asaduzzaman, additional superintendent of police of the Kaliganj and Kapasia circles in Gazipur, confirmed the development to The Daily Star around 4:00pm.
“The boy was rescued from the Dhaka airport area. We cannot say clearly yet how he got there or how he reached the airport area. At this moment, he is somewhat unwell. He is physically very weak,” he said.
Citing information provided by the boy, the officer said they initially learned that someone had taken him away. However, the matter was still being verified.
The boy, who is a class 8 student at a school in Kapasia, went missing around 1:30pm on August 18 during tiffin break.
He could not be traced after leaving the school for a nearby market.
Sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam of Tok Nayan Bazar Police Investigation Centre in Kapasia told The Daily Star that after the boy went missing, his blood-stained shirt, shoes and school identity card were recovered around 4:00pm that day.
The boy’s father filed a general diary (GD) at Kapasia Police Station in connection with the incident.
The additional SP said, “There are no visible injury marks on his body. So, we have to investigate where the blood-stained clothes came from. The boy is currently in our custody.”
