The government has confirmed that two Bangladeshis were killed and seven others injured due to separate missile and drone attacks in different parts of the Middle East.
In a press statement issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the government was “deeply saddened” by the loss of lives and expressed grave concern over the escalating situation in the region.
According to the statement, Saleh Ahmed, a Bangladeshi national originally from Sylhet, was killed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after being struck by debris resulting from an aerial attack on a civilian installation.
The government said the Embassy of Bangladesh in the UAE is in close contact with local authorities and is extending necessary assistance to repatriate his mortal remains once commercial flights resume.
The ministry also reported that another Bangladeshi national was killed in Bahrain, while three others were injured in the same incident.
It said the Bangladesh mission in Manama is maintaining communication with the relevant authorities regarding the matter.
In Kuwait, four Bangladeshi nationals -- Aminul Islam from Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria; Rabiul Islam from Sathia, Pabna; Masudur Rahman from Begumganj, Noakhali; and Dulal Miah from Chandina, Cumilla -- suffered injuries following a drone attack near a civilian airport.
“They have received necessary medical treatment and are currently reported to be in stable condition,” the foreign ministry said.
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kuwait remains in regular contact with the injured individuals, and the ambassador personally visited them at the hospital.
Separately, the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation vessel Banglar Joyjatra is currently stranded at Jebel Ali Port in the UAE. The ministry said the embassy is in close communication with the ship’s captain and confirmed that all crew members are safe.
Reiterating its concern, the government said, “Safety and security of more than six million Bangladeshis living in the Middle East are the top-most concern of the government.”
It added that Bangladeshi embassies in the affected countries have been instructed to issue advisories urging nationals to remain vigilant and strictly follow the guidance of host governments.
The government said it is closely monitoring developments in the region.
