The Ambassador of the European Union to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, today paid a courtesy call on Leader of the Opposition and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at the latter’s office in parliament.
The discussions focused on making democracy more meaningful following the national parliamentary election, ongoing reform initiatives and the implementation of the referendum verdict, according to a press release issued by the Parliament Secretariat.
The two sides also exchanged views on various issues relating to Bangladesh and the European Union, the release added.
During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of taking necessary measures to ensure that the upcoming local government elections are held in a free, fair and credible manner.
They also expressed optimism that the existing relations, development cooperation and progress between Bangladesh and the European Union would be further strengthened in the future.
