Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday said they did not want to see any possibility of the return of fascist rule in Bangladesh in the future.

‘We want to establish a humanitarian country with a government that would be free from corruption and ensure the rights of the people, Shafiqur said at an election rally at HJ Government Primary School playground at Chauddagram in Cumilla.


Chauddagram falls within the area of Cumilla-11 constituency, where Jamaat›s nayabe-e-amir Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher is the Jamaat-led alliance candidate in the February 12 general election.

Shafiqur said that the rights of the people, who were oppressed during the fascist Awami League regime, would be established in the future Bangladesh.

‘We not only want the victory of Jamaat but also want to see the victory of the country’s 18 crore people in the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections. If our 11-party alliance gets victory, it will be the victory of the people,’ he said.

Shafiqur said that his party wanted a complete end to extortion and corruption. ‘We  will ensure jobs for all so that they can earn to maintain their families.’

Jamaat-led alliance leader and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish amir Mamunul Haque said that people were now united to support their alliance and wanted to see it in power.

National Citizen Party convener Nahid Islam said that one of Bangladesh’s neighbouring countries was hatching conspiracies before the general election.

Taher, who chaired the rally, said that he would stop all sorts of political confrontations in the area if the Jamaar-led alliance was voted to power.

Jamaat assistant secretary general ATM Masum, and central leader Abdul Halim, among others, also spoke.

Shafiqur spoke at different election rallies while returning to Dhaka. The day’s events ended with a rally on the Kalabagan playground in the city in the evening.
