Six leaders and activists of BNP in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila have been permanently expelled from the party on charges of misconduct with teachers and violation of party discipline during a school farewell event.

The decision was announced this morning through a press release published on Facebook by Khairul Kabir Mondol Azad, member secretary of Sreepur upazila BNP.

“Action has been taken against them in accordance with the party constitution,” he said.

The expelled individuals are: Md Sarowar Auwal, former general secretary of ward-1 BNP under Gazipur union; A Mannan Master, former organising secretary; Md Hasmat Ali Hasu, former joint secretary; and members Md Arman Ali, Md Mahbub Alam, and Md Rafiqul Islam.

According to the press release, on April 19, the six created an untoward incident during a farewell programme held at Banshbari Adarsha High School in Gazipur union under Sreepur upazila. They allegedly behaved in an extremely disrespectful manner toward teachers. A video of the incident later spread on social media.

On April 20, an online report was published by The Daily Star with the headline: “Allegation of locking headmaster’s office for not being invited to school event”.

Regarding the matter, Abdul Motaleb, convener of Sreepur upazila BNP, said such behaviour would not be tolerated. “Creating chaos at a school programme is unacceptable,” he added.

On April 19, a farewell programme for SSC examinees took place at Banshbari Adarsha High School. Local BNP leaders and activists attended the event without formal invitation and created disorder, according to witnesses. They allegedly snatched the microphone from the headmaster and verbally abused teachers and school authorities on various pretexts.

At one stage, they locked the headmaster’s office. The situation created panic among students, forcing the programme to be suspended.
