Instagram is testing new ways to give users greater control over the content recommended by its algorithm, as the social media platform continues to refine how people discover posts and videos.
In a recent post, Instagram head Adam Mosseri demonstrated several experimental features designed to make the platform's "Your Algorithm" controls more accessible. The feature, introduced last year, allows users to indicate which topics they would like to see more of and which they would prefer to see less often. Since its launch, Instagram has gradually expanded the feature to more parts of the app.
“We’re working on making Your Algorithm feel more present and useful across Instagram. I wanted to share a few ideas we’re exploring. Some of this is testing now, some is coming soon, some might not work,” Mosseri wrote.
“Over time, we want your algorithm to feel like something you talk to rather than something that happens to you,” he added.
Among the concepts being tested is a shortcut that would allow users to access the "Your Algorithm" menu by pulling down on the main Instagram feed. Another experiment would prompt users to customise recommendations by swiping up from a Reel. A third concept introduces buttons beneath individual Reels, enabling users to quickly indicate whether they want to see more or fewer videos of a similar type.
