Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is set to take charge as the president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today.

He will serve as the president of the UN's highest representative and global multilateral forum for the next year.

According to the programme schedule on the UNGA website, the closing segment of the 80th UNGA session will take place at UN Headquarters in New York at 9:00pm Bangladesh time today, followed by the formal oath-taking ceremony of newly elected president Dr Khalilur.

Before taking the oath, he will participate in a media briefing at 8:45pm Bangladesh time, where he will outline his vision for conducting the UNGA's activities during the upcoming session.

Following the ceremony, Khalilur will chair the first plenary meeting of the 81st UNGA session at 1:00am Wednesday (Bangladesh time).
