New Age staff photojournalist Sony Ramani has won the first prize in a photography competition titled ‘Inclusive Societies: Free and Independent Press’.
The competition was organised by the Royal Nordic embassies in Dhaka, highlighting themes of press freedom and inclusive societies.
Photographers from different media houses participated in the event, showcasing their work on various social development issues.
According to organisers, of the three winners, Sony Ramani secured the first prize, while Zarin Tasnim Shaikh Ranush won the second prize and Abdullah Al Zubayer received the third prize.
The awards were presented at a prize-giving ceremony held on Sunday at the residence of the Royal Nordic ambassador in Dhaka.
The Norwegian ambassador to Bangladesh, Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, the Swedish ambassador, Nicolas Weeks and the Danish ambassador, Christian Brix Møller, were present at the ceremony.
Officials said that the competition was aimed at encouraging photojournalists in the country.
