Artist Club, which officially began its journey in May this year, has announced a new weekly programme titled “Iconic Tuesday”, bringing together renowned artistes and cultural figures from across the country.

Since its launch, the club has regularly organised weekly musical programmes alongside poetry evenings and discussions on literature and culture. The new series will take place every Tuesday at Artist Club in Banani, Dhaka, with veteran singer Khurshid Alam set to appear as the guest of the inaugural edition.

Artist Club President Sujit Mostafa announced the initiative on social media yesterday. In a Facebook post, he said the programme would offer audiences an opportunity to spend time with prominent musicians and cultural personalities while experiencing their work.

“We are introducing another weekly programme at Artist Club called ‘Iconic Tuesday’, where we will sit with some of the country’s distinguished musicians and cultural figures and enjoy their company and artistry,” he wrote.

“The first edition will feature Khurshid Alam. The programme has been organised to celebrate his 81st birthday and will take place at the Artist Club Lounge at 7:30pm on Tuesday, August 11.”

Tickets have been priced at Tk 1,000.

Speaking to Ajker Patrika about “Iconic Tuesday”, Sujit said the initiative would celebrate artistes who have made longstanding contributions to the country’s music scene, while also paying tribute to those who are no longer alive.

“The programme is dedicated to artistes who have contributed to our music scene for many years. We will also organise programmes in memory of those who are no longer with us and pay tribute to them,” he said.

“Khurshid Alam will join us for the first edition, where various artistes will perform his songs. He has been somewhat unwell, but if his health permits, he will also perform a few songs.”

Sujit also revealed that the second edition of “Iconic Tuesday” will honour late rock icon Ayub Bachchu, whose birthday falls on August 16.

The programme will feature performances of Ayub Bachchu’s songs, while musician Partha Barua will share memories of the legendary guitarist and singer. Several other artistes are also expected to participate. Further details will be announced soon on Artist Club’s Facebook page.

Speaking about the broader vision behind Artist Club, Sujit said the organisation aims to bring together creative individuals from different artistic disciplines rather than focusing solely on music.

“We are trying to include artistes from every field of the arts at Artist Club, not just music. Although we are still financially constrained, we hope that one day Artist Club will become a vibrant space filled with creative people from every field,” he said.

“We also have plans to contribute to social development.”
