Five premature and low-birth-weight babies born together under the intensive care of doctors at the neonatal intensive care unit of Bangladesh Medical University were discharged healthy from the university in Dhaka on Thursday.
BMU vice-chancellor Professor Dr FM Siddiqui; pro-VC, research and development, Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman; treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar; chairperson of the department of neonatology Professor Dr Md Abdul Mannan; chairperson of the department of fetomaternal medicine Professor Dr Tabassum Parveen handed over the newborns to their parents and relatives, said a press release.
According to doctors, this is a very rare and challenging event in the context of Bangladesh.
Professor FM Siddiqui referred to this event as a great success of BMU and praised the medical services and the skills of the doctors and nurses of BMU’s obstetrics and gynaecology department, fetomaternal medicine department and neonatology department.
Professor Abdul Mannan said that on April 5, five children were born to a 30-year-old mother through caesarean section at 33 weeks of gestation.
