A woman fisherman was killed in a crocodile attack while collecting fish fry in Sundarban’ Joymoni area of Mongla in Bagerhat Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, Selina Begum, 50, was attacked while pulling a fishing net in the Shaila River Launch Ghat at around 5.40pm.
Md Hamidur Rahman, station officer of the Chandpai range under the East Sundarban forest division, said a crocodile suddenly grabbed Selina and dragged her into the water while she was working.
Her two companions fought back by striking the crocodile with wooden poles used for handling fishing nets. They eventually managed to free Selina, but she had already died from her injuries.
Selina Begum was the wife of Abdul Sheikh and a resident of Joymoni village in Ward No-9 of Chila union under Mongla upazila.
