A 17-year-old boy was arrested yesterday in connection with the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Mohongonj upazila of Netrokona.
The main accused, autorickshaw driver Joy Miya, 22, remains at large.
Mohongonj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Hafizul Islam Harun confirmed the arrest, saying the minor was produced before a court this afternoon.
According to the case documents, the victim, a class 6 student, was allegedly raped yesterday afternoon. The minor boy is accused of helping the autorickshaw driver carry out the act.
The victim later went to Mohongonj Upazila Health Complex, where hospital staff alerted police.
Police detained the boy the same afternoon near a park in the Nauhal area of the upazila.
The victim's father filed a case at Mohanganj Police Station last night under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming Joy Miya as the accused in the rape and the 17-year-old for aiding the offence.
The minor boy was shown arrested in the case following its filing.
“All-out efforts are underway to arrest the fugitive, Joy. The investigation and other procedures of the case are ongoing,” OC Hafizul said.
