Opposition parties today protested the passage of the July Uprising Memorial Museum Bill in amended form, saying it violated the consensus reached in the special committee.
After Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam voiced his objection, a heated debate broke out between the two sides.
Speaking on the matter, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad compared past parliaments with the current one, describing the present parliament as more disciplined, lively, and effective.
During his remarks, Hasnat Abdullah, a frontline leader of the July movement and NCP lawmaker, stood up from his seat and started shouting.
Addressing him directly, the speaker said, “Such intolerance will not do, Mr Abdullah. This is not Shahbagh square. This is the parliament. Here you must wait patiently and listen.”
Following the speaker’s remarks, the chamber erupted in shouting. The speaker then said, “There is very little room for verbal outbursts in this parliament. Submit a notice, and we will take the matter into consideration.”
