Janes Sumon, the singer behind the 1990s hit song "Ekta Chador Hobe", has passed away.
He died today, Friday, at around 4pm while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The news of his death was confirmed to The Daily Star by singer–lyricist Ethun Babu.
Janes Sumon rose to prominence in 2002 after performing "Ekta Chador Hobe" on a magazine show aired on Bangladesh Television (BTV). Throughout his career, he recorded nearly 300 songs.
The singer's real name was Galib Ahsan Mehedi. His first solo album, Ashirbad, was released in 1997. Among his well-loved songs are "Akash Kedechhe", "Otithi", "Ashabadi", "Ekta Chador Hobe", "Ay Tora Ay", and "Cheri".
