Android Auto is set to receive multiple new features aimed at improving the in-car experience, Google announced at Android Show 2026.

Among the updates is a change that allows Android Auto to fully adapt to curved, panoramic and irregularly shaped displays that are increasingly appearing in modern vehicles. Previously, Android Auto often displayed unused borders around the interface on wider or unusually shaped screens. 

Google said the updated system will dynamically resize the interface to make fuller use of available display space across a broader range of vehicle interiors.

Google also confirmed that its new “Immersive Navigation” experience in Google Maps will expand to Android Auto. The redesigned maps interface includes updated colours, detailed 3D buildings, terrain rendering and enhanced road visualisation.

Another new feature, called “Magic Cue”, is designed to analyse incoming messages and suggest relevant responses or information. Google said the system could automatically retrieve addresses, phone numbers or other requested details from a user’s smartphone and offer one-tap replies intended to reduce phone handling while driving.

Gemini will also gain broader control over mobile applications connected through Android Auto. During demonstrations, Google showed drivers placing food and coffee orders through apps like DoorDash using voice instructions, without manually interacting with a smartphone.

During Android Show 2026, Guemmy Kim, Senior Director, Android for Cars said, “Gemini is now available in more than 250 million cars that support Android Auto.”

Google is also expanding widget support within Android Auto, allowing users to project personalised information such as sports scores, smart home controls, contact shortcuts and calendar updates onto vehicle displays.
