Temperature will go up from the next week following departure of the winter with the met office forecasting presence of a mild heat wave in the country’s western part by the middle of the next month.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department in its three-month outlook for the period of February–April said that 3–5 mild to moderate heat waves and 1–2 severe heat waves may sweep through the country in the last half of this period.

In Bangladesh, mercury at 36–38C is called a mild heat wave, the moderate one 38–40C, and severe one is above 40C.

The summer starts in March and lasts up to May with April being the hottest month in the country.

In recent decades, the country has experienced more frequent heat wave days, both in the pre-monsoon season which is historically the main hot part of the summer season, and in monsoon, when hot days had historically been a rare occurrence, according to the Future Climate of Bangladesh released in November 2025.

Referring 26 days of heat wave during summer in 2024, weathermen AKM Nazmul Hoque said that coming summer might come with even more intense heat.

Global meteorologists have already projected that 2026 will be more than 1.4C warmer than pre-industrial levels, placing it among the four hottest years recorded since 1850.

While it may not surpass the record heat of 2024, it will still sit uncomfortably close to the 1.5C warming threshold, according to the World Meteorological Organisation.

In its February–April outlook, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said that 2–3 low pressure systems are likely to form over the Bay of Bengal.

Among them one low pressure system may intensify into a depression or cyclone in the second half of this period.

The met office also forecast 4–8 days light and moderate thunderstorms with hail at places over the country in the second half of this period.
