Even before its release, “Domm”, directed by Redoan Rony, was widely discussed for its first look, teaser, trailer, and songs. After its release, audience reactions have only strengthened those expectations.
The film is currently taking multiplexes across the country by storm. Even in its second week, its momentum shows no sign of slowing down; if anything, the increasing number of shows reflects just how high audience interest remains.
The country’s largest multiplex chain, Star Cineplex, has released its show schedule from March 27 to April 2. Across its eight branches, “Domm” has secured the highest number of screenings—22 shows—more than any other film this week.
Following closely in second place is Tanim Noor’s “Bonolota Express” with 21 shows. Abu Hayat Mahmud’s “Prince” has received 20 shows, while Mehedi Hasan’s “Rakkhosh” has 14. Meanwhile, Raihan Rafi’s “Pressure Cooker” is running with 11 shows.
At another multiplex, Lion Cinemas, “Domm” has also maintained a strong position in its second week. According to the schedule for March 27 and 28, “Domm”, “Prince”, and “Rakkhosh” each received five shows. “Bonolota Express” has four shows, while “Pressure Cooker” has just one.
Since its release, almost every screening of “Domm” has been running houseful. Many viewers are even unable to secure tickets three to four days in advance.
The film is also generating positive buzz on social media, with audiences praising its story, performances, and overall craftsmanship. In particular, the performances of Afran Nisho and Chanchal Chowdhury, along with Puja Cherry Roy, are receiving notable appreciation across platforms like Facebook.
With “Domm”, director Redoan Rony has returned to the big screen after nearly a decade. For the first time, two powerhouse actors—Afran Nisho and Chanchal Chowdhury—have shared the screen in the same film, further heightening audience interest.
Following its successful run in Bangladesh, “Domm” is now set to enter the international market. The film is being screened in several cities across Australia starting yesterday. Producer Shahriar Shakil said the first screening took place at Bankstown Hall in Sydney at 9:15 pm yesterday. It will then be shown in Prospect today at 5pm, and at Werribee tomorrow at 6pm. There are also plans to release the film in more countries and cities in phases.
Regarding the international release, director Redoan Rony said, “The story of indomitable mental strength based on a true incident has been embraced so warmly by local audiences. I hope expatriates will also be able to connect with it emotionally in the same way. We tried to tell the story in a way that makes it a story of Bangladesh’s triumph—a triumph of Bangladeshis.”
Produced by SVF Alpha-i and Chorki, the film has so far become one of the most talked-about releases of Eid.
