Raised in a musical family, veteran musician Fahmida Nabi is a consummate artiste whose voice has touched countless hearts over the years. With a career built on melody, she has earned widespread acclaim, including the National Film Award.

Consistently offering listeners new music, she is now set to release multiple songs centred around Valentine’s Day. Speaking to The Daily Star, the singer opened up about her upcoming releases and more.

On February 5, her new song “Chayer Cup-e Kobita” will be released in two versions. One is a duet sung with Joy Shahriar, while the other features her solo rendition of the same song.

Sharing details about the release, Fahmida Nabi said, “A music video for the song will also be released on the same day. From that day, listeners will be able to enjoy the song in two different ways. There’s a distinct joy in listening it as a duet with Joy Shahriar, and another kind of emotion when I sing it solo.”

She added that the project has brought her a special sense of fulfilment. “Honestly, it feels different in a very nice way. The lyrics have been written by Someshwar Oli, and they are beautiful—words that I believe will touch people’s hearts.”

Another song titled “Aj Boshonto, Aj Boshonto” is also on the way, inspired by spring and Valentine’s Day. “I’ve sung this song with a lot of feeling,” she said. “I hope listeners will feel something good when they hear it. It will be released very soon.”

Fahmida Nabi will also be travelling to Florida shortly, where she is scheduled to perform at a spring festival. “This Phalgun (Spring), most of my releases are spring-themed songs,” she shared with a smile. “It almost feels like spring belongs to me this year and this spring feels personal this year. I’m going to Florida for a spring festival as well, and I’ll be singing Phalgun songs there too. Altogether, there’s this overwhelming sense of this beautiful season in everything.”

Reflecting on the season, she said, “Spring is all about celebration. After winter comes spring, and it’s a season filled with passion and festivity. Everyone loves spring, and so do I.”

Fahmida Nabi is also lending her voice to a song in the film “Ontorboti”, which marks the late Ahmed Rubel’s final on-screen appearance. Speaking about it, she said, “I had already sung one song for this film earlier. Today, I’m recording another one.”

Responding to a question about musical trends, the singer shared an anecdote from a recent live show. “Someone once asked me, ‘What’s the point of making viral songs?’ At the end of the day, listeners are truly moved by melody—and I believe that deeply. Beautiful tunes, a sincere voice, meaningful lyrics—these are what people remember, accept, and love. Even in the viral era, melody still lives on.”

She added, “Even now, audiences appreciate calm, soulful songs. Good music will always stand the test of time.”
