At least three people were killed after being hit by trains in Jashore and Jamalpur districts on Saturday.

In Jashore, two people were killed after being hit by a train in Sardar Mill area under Abhaynagar upazila in the morning.


One of the deceased is Karunakanta Mondal, 90, a former teacher at Panchbaria Government Primary School in Manirampur upazila and resident of Alipur village of the upazila.

The incident occurred on the Jashore-Khulna railway line at around 10:00am when two people was hit by the Jashore-bound Rupsha Express train, said SM Nuruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar police station.

Local residents quickly rushed to the scene and took them to Abhaynagar upazila health complex where they died from their injuries.

Nawapara railway station master Yasir Arafat confirmed the incident, saying that the railway police are now investigating the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, a 90-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a speeding intercity train in the Narundi area of Jamalpur Sadar upazila in the morning.

The deceased is Nurbanu, wife of the late Aktaruzzam, a resident of Nalkuri village in the upazila.

According to railway police, the accident occurred at around 8:20am when the Dhaka-bound Brahmaputra Express coming from Dewanganj station struck her while she was crossing the railway tracks.

Jamalpur railway police OC Md Rabiul Islam confirmed the accident.
