Anger and concern are growing in the cultural arena over the rising incidents of violence against women and children in the country. In protest against rape and abuse, recitation artistes are raising their voices.
They are demanding the highest punishment for rapists through speedy trial tribunals. A protest recitation programme has been organised with this demand.
The event is titled “Poetry Against Rape and Abuse”. It will be held today at 4 pm at the Central Shaheed Minar.
The programme will be held under the slogan, “Chitkar koro meye, dekhi kotodur gola jay” (Scream, girl, let’s see how far your voice reaches).
According to the organisers, members of the country’s united recitation community will participate in the programme. Prominent recitation artistes and cultural activists are set to present poetry readings, collective recitations, and protest songs to convey a message of social resistance.

The announcement of the protest has already drawn attention within the cultural arena. Organisers believe that voicing dissent through poetry and art will raise public awareness and help consolidate public opinion against rape and abuse.
